Raps fan here who doesn't love or hate Bargnani. You shouldn't do something as drastic as put him at the 3 on D. He's fine at the 4 so long as the other big is a good/great help defender and the perimeter D is fairly solid. He's a very weak help defender and rebounder as has been noted many times, the thing that rarely gets mentioned is why.

Bargnani has severe energy problems and when he's tired or even mildly injured, the first things to go in his game are help D and rebounding. When he gets even more tired, the next things to go are his slashing and running the floor, the final thing to go is his shooting. When he's healthy and has energy, he's fine in all those areas, his haters will never admit this but it's true. The key is taking the proper precautions to keep his energy from getting drained and avoid minor strains and injuries.

The ideal way to use him is at the 4 with a center beside him who's a strong help defender and rebounder. Try to have a great rebounding 3 out there as well so Bargs can be the designated "box-out" guy who just clears space when a shot goes up. If you have a terrible perimeter defender in the rotation, try not to play them at the same time as Bargs as they'll get exploited together (Novak would've been terrible with Bargs on the floor). Most importantly, don't play him more than 30 minutes a game, and even then play him less in back-to-backs. Bargs lack of energy is notorious with Raptor fans and I can't stress enough how precautions should be made, you can't wait until he's showing signs of fatigue or he'll get injured, and even if he doesn't get injured, he'll suffer from exhaustion until the next lull in the schedule when he can get 3 days off or more.

You guys seem to have the right mix of players and depth to have Bargs in said role, so hopefully your coaches have the discipline to not overplay him when he's on his game, or he won't be on his game for a long stretch of games afterwards.

Mike Woodson is liking the chemistry in playing Andrea Bargnani with Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony played a lot of minutes last season at power forward for the New York Knicks, but he could slide to small forward with Bargnani.

"It’s looking good," Woodson said on Sunday. "I don’t know who’s going to start yet. But I like the makeup of Andrea and Melo on the floor at the same time with Tyson [Chandler]. In the scrimmage we worked that combination. It wasn’t bad."

Anthony and Bargnani have had seven practices together.

"Me and 'B' had a great week, just playing together, spacing it out on the court, me trying to learn from him, him trying to learn from me, trying to see what spots he likes out there on the basketball court," Anthony said. "For the most part, he's actually a smart player; he can play off people."

While offense shouldn't be an issue with Anthony and Bargnani, whether they are able to defend together at a sustainable rate is yet to be seen.

Anthony believes the debate of whether he plays power forward or small forward is overblown.

"Just put me out there, put us out there on the basketball court, whoever's in the lineup we'll adjust to each other, we'll try to make it work and we'll go from there," he said.

A proposito di quella posizione:
ieri vedendo Siena - Varese, e osservando l'allungo decisivo della prima nell'ultimo quarto, che ha spezzato letteralmente le gambe (ahimè) agli avversari fatto col quintetto piccolo (con Ress da 5), mi sono chiesto se davvero non possa diventare col tempo un'arma tattica potenzialmente devastante l'utilizzo del Mago da centro, con Melo 4 (solo in certi frangenti limitati s'intende e contro squadre tipo Indiana...per portare fuori area Hibbert ad esempio).
